As Wales prepare to face rugby’s reigning world champions South Africa on Saturday 5 June, a Ceredigion man is preparing for his own star moment.

Glyn Morgan, 72, will take centre stage at the Millennium Stadium in ‘The Principality Building Society Summer Test’ and present the winning team with the Prince William Cup.

Glyn won the opportunity after entering the Principality Building Society prize draw. Glyn said: “I was in the local branch paying some money into my account and was offered a form to fill out to enter. As a rugby fan, I thought ‘why not?’.

“I never win anything so wasn’t hopeful, but then I got a phone call to say I’d won! I’m really looking forward to it, and can’t thank Principality enough.”

Glyn, who has never watched a match at the Millennium Stadium, travelled to Cardiff this morning with his daughter, Gwenan. Glyn said: “I did ask my wife to come, but she’s not really into rugby, whereas my daughter loves it like me. My son lives in Cardiff Bay, so we’ll meet up with him as well, which will be lovely.”

Glyn, who follows Cardiff Blues and the Scarlets, has been a member of Principality for nine years. His wife and children all have Principality savings accounts as well.

Principality, which is celebrating 150 years at the heart of the nation, became partners with the Welsh Rugby Union last month in a deal that will provide a raft of benefits and offers to its 500,000-plus members.

Graeme Yorston, Chief Operating Officer at Principality Building Society, said: “We are thrilled for Glyn to get to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is one of the many benefits we can pass on to our members because of our agreement with the WRU.

“The Society shares a long and proud history with the Welsh Rugby Union, which we believe is central to the culture and heritage of Wales. The Principality Building Society Summer Test is the perfect mix of tradition and innovation which will capture the enthusiasm and patriotism of people across the country.”

Alongside Glyn’s prize, a host of other promotions have run with the partnership providing many other Society members with tickets to the game and meet-and-greet opportunities with the Welsh team.

The Principality Building Society Summer Test comes just three weeks shy of the 10th anniversary of the only time Wales have beaten the Boks in 23 attempts, the 29-19 victory at the Millennium Stadium’s inaugural match on 26th June 1999 – (Wales have lost to South Africa 21 times since 1906, the seventh meeting between the two sides in 1970, at the national stadium in Cardiff, ended in a 6-6 draw).

Glyn said: “As much as I’m looking forward to the match, it would be the icing on the cake to be presenting the trophy to Wales at the end!”
