Birthday Cake

Applications from community groups across Wales continue to roll in as charities and project across the region hope to stake a claim in the Principality Big Birthday Giveaway.

But if your group hasn’t applied for the treasure chest yet, don’t worry – there’s still plenty of time to get in your application.

The Big Birthday Giveaway is a key part of our 150th anniversary celebrations and is aimed at providing a vital cash injection to five community schemes or charities across Wales - with the money providing the opportunity to complete projects that will make a difference to the communities they serve and support.

Among them is the Shrewsbury and Oswestry Crucial Crew, a charity set up to provide young people in the area with essential life skills, safety and social awareness training in order to help them advance in life and participate in society as mature, responsible individuals.

The group is applying for the £5,000 award to help finance the two-week Crucial Crew event being staged at Nesscliffe Army Barracks in Shropshire from June 7-18 to benefit 1,500 children, aged 10, who would not otherwise gain essential life skills.

Other groups that have applied for support include Llanidloes Rugby Club, which has asked for the funding to help provide coaching for a variety of sports for children aged seven to 16 in the Llanidloes area.

Bethania Congregational Church in Tredegar which serves the community both socially and spiritually, has also applied for the support to  renovate the room where community groups meet.

The church minister, The Rev Vivienne Nicholls, said: “The room is also the location for annual craft fayres, choir concerts, flower festivals, art displays and coffee mornings for people of all ages.”

In total, over 70 applications have been received from across Wales.

If you are involved in a community group or community charity that is working on a project that could do with a £5,000 injection of support to help get it completed then the Principality Building Society-South Wales Argus Big Birthday Giveaway could be just what you are waiting for to make that difference.

The group, project or local charity that you think deserves the money needs to show that – just like Principality – it is at the heart of the community it serves, meets a defined need and is innovative.

Nominations for the Principality Building Society Big Birthday Giveaway can be made by downloading an application form or by phoning the Big Birthday Giveaway co-ordinator on 02920 773788; or you can pick up an application form any Principality Building Society branch.
