" I set my heart on a flat in a communal block"
When I was looking to buy my first property in 1968, a mortgage proved very hard to come by.
The problem was that the flat I’d set my heart on was in a communal block and didn’t have its own external front door. Most lenders didn’t like this, but the Principality stepped in and supported me in the purchase. I bought the house for £3,300 and I’m pretty sure that my monthly mortgage payments were £26.
I’ve remained loyal to the Principality, taking out two more mortgages with them and becoming a Saver. The staff have always been very friendly and willing to give advice, even arranging the extra loan I needed to sit alongside my mortgage.
