THE WINNER FOR EAST WALES IS...

Woody’s Workers Healthy Living Project

Woody's Workers Healthy Living is a project designed to promote a healthier lifestyle among disadvantaged children in Torfaen. Based at the Woodlands Field in Penygarn, the Project will use the Big Birthday Giveaway money to help improve the eating habits and increase the physical fitness levels of scores of children in the area.

The £5000 prize will be used to finance the purchase of 12 mountain bikes for children aged eight and over, a bike trailer, diesel to transport the bikes to safe cycle routes, a table-tennis table, healthy cooking equipment and a baked potato station.

It will not only benefit more than 100 children from the Woodlands and Penygarn area who visit the Woodlands Field facilities on a daily basis, but their families and the wider local community.

Woody’s Workers Volunteer Group secretary Louise Johnson said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to receive this money from Principality Building Society. It will mean such a lot to the young people who use the Woodlands Field facilities and the extended communities they serve.

“The aim of the Woody’s Workers Healthy Living Project is to improve the eating habits of the children and increase their physical fitness levels while, at the same time, promoting a healthier lifestyle."
